Pell-Ilderton graduated in medicine from the University of Manchester in 1953. He was a consultant pathologist at Ancoats Hospital from 1961-8 and at North Manchester General Hospital from 1968-1985. He was a fellow of the Manchester Medical Society. He married Daphne Jean Savage b 1928 (MB ChB Manch 1953), who was in practice with him in Wilmslow.
