Panton received a MA from Cambridge University in 1926 before studying medicine at the University of Manchester, where she qualified in 1937, and she took the DPM in 1947. She held house and resident posts at MRI and DOY Hospitals, and was later a psychiatrist at Graylingwell Hospital, Sussex.
