Jacques was born in Sierra Leone on 19 April 1962 and gained her medical education at the University of Manchester, qualifying in 1986. She held paediatric appointments in Macclesfield and Manchester before being appointed consultant paediatrician to Booth Hall Children's Hospital, Manchester, in 1997.
