Linford received her medical education at the University of Manchester and won the University Prize in medicine in 1921. After qualifying, Linford was assistant lecturer in physiology at the University before being awarded the Dickinson Research Scholarship in 1928 which enabled her to work in France. Linford held junior hospital appointments at MRI, Royal Victoria Infirmary Newcastle, and the Children's Hospital for Infectious Diseases, London. In the 1930s, Linford was assistant county medical officer of health for the Isle of Wight, and was later assistant medical officer of health for Middlesex before returning to the Isle of Wight. Linford specialised in the health of women and children. During her later years, Linford developed an interest in archaeology. She died suddenly in March 1980.
