Martin studied at Cambridge and Manchester. He was medical officer to the children's department and house physician to Hope Hospital, Salford, before being appointed resident obstetrics officer to Townleys Hospital, Bolton. He later settled in general practice in Green Mount, near Bury, Lancashire. Martin died on 11 November 1956, aged 47.
