The only son of George Herbert Lancashire, Roger William George Lancashire received his medical education at Oxford and Manchester Universities. He held house positions at St Mary's Hospital Manchester and MRI before serving in the RN as surgeon commander. Lancashire returned to Manchester in the 1950s and was assistant senior medical officer to Manchester Regional Health Board and later to the planning team of United Manchester Hospitals.
