Leigh was a physician and naturalist. He was born in Singleton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, and was educated at Brasenose College Oxford, and Cambridge. Leigh practised in London and later in Manchester where he had an extensive practice. Leigh was elected fellow of the Royal Society in 1685. He published a number of works on medicine and natural history, but these were not important writings.
