Jackson graduated in medicine from the University of Manchester in 1910. He joined his uncle's practice in Chadderton, near Oldham. As well as maintaining his private practice, he later worked as a surgeon at Oldham Royal Infirmary. He was chairman of the Medical Board at ORI and its nursing committee.
