Love gained her medical qualifications in Sheffield in 1973. She was senior registrar in haematology in Manchester from 1980 and in 1983 was appointed consultant haematologist to the MRI and Regional Blood Transfusion Service, in 1994 becoming deputy director of the Manchester Blood Centre. She was particularly interested in the support of the immuno-compromised patient. Love was a member of the British Society for Haematology and MMS.
