Hancock qualified MB ChB from the University of Manchester in 1964. He has been a consultant surgeon at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester. He is a member of the Manchester Medical Society and fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. Hancock also worked at hospitals in Uganda and London.
