Luckman received his medical education at Owens College Manchester and was resident surgical dresser at MRI in 1878. Luckman practised in Altrincham for nearly forty years, he was honorary surgeon to Altrincham Hospital and surgeon to the police. At Altrincham Hospital in 1900, Luckman was said to have performed the first successful splenectomy. Luckman was also ophthalmic surgeon and honorary surgeon to the Altrincham Ambulance Brigade. He was active in the BMA and was vice-president of the Lancashire Branch and chairman of the Altrincham Division. Luckman died on 20 March 1917 aged 67.
