Marsh was born in 1864 and studied medicine at Owens College Manchester. He entered general practice in Northwich and was honorary surgeon to the Victoria Infirmary Northwich. Marsh was interested in, and had experience of, radiology since its inception in 1895. He was a member of the Roentgen Society and a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. Marsh became severely deaf and decided to go to East Africa and take up farming. However, he took with him a x-ray machine and other medical equipment. He was very popular and was elected a member of the Medical Council of Nairobi. Marsh's deafness was increasing and in 1913 he returned to England and took up dairy farming. However, the outbreak of war saw Marsh appointed radiologist of the Epsom Red Cross Hospital and in 1918 he was RAMC radiologist in Marseilles. When he returned to England he was appointed radiologist at the Royal Herbert Hospital, and later at the London Jewish Hospital.
