James Blair Hartley 1901-1969

Hartley was a medical student at Durham University. After working in Newcastle he moved to Manchester, eventually becoming a consultant radiologist in charge at the Christie Hospital in 1939; he was later responsible for setting up the X-ray department at St. Mary's Hospitals. Hartley also lectured on radiology, obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics at the University of Manchester. He was president of the British Institute of Radiologists in 1958-9, McKenzie Davidson lecturer in 1964 and won the Barclay medal in 1965.
