Lord was born in Rochdale on 11 January 1867, the son of Ellis Lord, a well known chemist. He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and London University. He studied medicine at Owens College Manchester where he was prosector and junior assistant demonstrator. Lord held resident appointments at MRI and Salford Royal Hospital, and was later vice-president of the MRI Old Resident's Club. Lord was a distinguished medical practitioner but his health was poor and he moved to Colwyn Bay in 1895. Lord was later appointed physician to Colwyn Bay and West Denbighshire Hospital, he was one of the pioneers of the hospital and was prominent in the campaign for its enlargement. Lord was also medical officer to Rydal School, Colwyn Bay, and was a member of the Medical Officers of Schools Association. Lord died on 10 July 1931. A ward at Colwyn Bay Hospital was named in his memory. His eldest son, Herbert Lord, joined his father's practice.
