Wolseley writes regarding the proposed expedition to Khartoum to relieve General Charles Gordon. He writes that the condition of the Egyptian means that they need to recruit 5,000 men from India, 2000 men from Turkey and any other required men from West Africa. There is an endorsement written in black ink which reads, "Recruiting for Egyptian Army. Memo by Lord Wolseley. July 1884." Sent from: London, date stamped, 27 July.
