SCC writes concerning the meeting he had with Harcourt, Chamberlain and Dilke. He writes that the outcome of this meeting was a need to know Gladstone's views and intentions on Irish Home Rule and what course is to be taken on the meeting of Parliament. He writes concerning the need for Gladstone to come to London before 12th for the necessary consultations. He further writes that the Government were about to meet in Parliament and in combination with the Parnellites "may at any moment be defeated and resign office".
