Mr Foljambe writes concerning the debate in the House of Lords declaring that it is "worthy of a great place in History". He further writes that besides SCC's speech, those of the Duke of Argyll, Lord Selbourne and the Lord Chancellor were the most impressive. He also writes that Lord Spencer's speech was "very weak" and Lord Rosebery's "too light for the subject". He also writes concerning the coal strikes and gives his opinion on how the matter should be settled commenting that should philanthropic funds be raised to support the strikers then "a valuable opportunity of teaching a lesson will be thrown away".
