Scope and Content

Mr Chamberlain writes concerning the second reading of the Irish Home Rule Bill. He writes advising SCC that a letter was sent last night by "express" to Mr Gladstone enclosing a letter in which "I [Chamberlain] had expressed strong suspicion that the 'Old Party Head' were trying to bamboozle me". Sent from: 40 Prince's Gardens, London. The letter is marked "please keep this as secret for yourself".
