The Duke of Argyll writes that he is feeling better; he has been out of bed for the first time in a week. He writes that he has been thinking much over "our position" [policy of Liberal Unionists] and writes giving his thoughts on the "Parnell party", the difficulty surrounding handing over the Irish Land Laws to an Irish Parliament and the difficulties surrounding handing over Ulster to an Irish Parliament. He also writes of his concerns of the "Gladstonian scheme", Edmund Burke and colonial independence and warns that "it will come to civil war if separation is allowed". Sent from: Inveraray. Letter is marked "private".
