Wolseley writes to SCC regarding the campaign in Sudan and the fall of Khartoum. He writes that he is suprised at the decision of the Cabinet to destroy the Mahdi's power in the region when before it was the Cabinet's view to withdraw from Sudan. He writes that it will be a great task to try a summer campaign and expects they will only manage to capture Berber. He writes that he is not sure how news of the fall of Khartoum reached London as he allowed no telegrams to be sent and even the locals do not believe what has happened. He writes that it is more difficult to plan further operations as he was appointed with the sole objective of relieving General Charles Gordon and they are going to face further difficulties such as food.
