Lord Salisbury writes concerning Honours believing SCC's list to be "rather weedy". He further writes suggesting William Thomson for a Peerage asking SCC to ascertain if he will accept it. He further writes bemoaning that "it hurts our feelings that Peerages should be refused". He also writes that Birdie sounds "rather weak for a Baronetcy" but he will talk it over with Richmond.
