Scope and Content

Lyons writes to Granville regarding the opinion of [Ferdinand] de Lesseps on the expedition to Khartoum to relieve General Charles Gordon. He writes that Lesseps wished them success but reminded them the "getting back" would be just as difficult. Lyons writes that they can appreciate Lesseps opinion but the officers on the ground are aware of this information. This extract is an enclosure to CS8/1644.
