Lord Selborne writes that he has spoken with Williams who agrees with him that in certain cases an amalgamation of the Liberal Unionist and Conservative organisations is desired by the local people. He further writes that however in certain constituencies it is "absolutely necessary" to keep the Liberal Unionists separate. He also writes the way should be left open for future amalgamation suggesting that the heads of the two organisations should have a regular meeting once a week, perhaps even having both headquarters located under the same roof. Sent from: London. Letter is written on Colonial Office headed paper and is marked "private".
