Scope and Content

Gladstone writes to SCC to advise him to speak to the Viceroy regarding a royal residence in Ireland. He writes that a smaller proposal could be adopted and a larger proposal at a future time. There is an endorsement written on this letter in black ink which reads "Gladstone Feb 20 / 71 Recommends writing to Ld Spencer on the subject of Royal Residence in Ireland. Thinks the smaller proposal does not [illegible] the longer one being carried out [latest]." Sent from: 11 Carlton House Terrace, London, date stamped 20 Feb.
