Wolseley writes to SCC regarding the proposed expedition to Khartoum to relieve General Charles Gordon. He writes that they will be able to communicate with the government via a clearance house but reports that some information is being sold to anyone that would pay for it. He writes to praise Sir Evelyn Wood and report that he is heading to Wadi Halfa. He writes that they must relieve Khartoum for the sake of peace in Egypt and if they are not successful they will have to return and conquer it. He writes that he wishes for British troops to leave Egypt but does not wish to leave the region in "anarchy." Sent from: Cairo, date stamped, 27 Sept.
