Wolseley telegrams SCC regarding the expedition to Khartoum to relieve General Charles Gordon. There are two telegrams on a single sheet. In the first telegram, titled "Telegram No. 42.", Wolseley writes that SCC should provide cavalry reinforcements so they can defeat Osman Digna. He writes that it is a secondary mission after relieving Khartoum. He reports further on troop reinforcements that will be required to defend Suakin and advises Sir George Greaves be appointed as a commander, with Arthur Lyon Fremantle as second-in-command. In the second telegram. titled "Telegram No.43.", Wolseley writes to recommend [Spencer] Ewart for command of the cavalry in Suakin. Sent from: Egypt, date stamped, 3 Sept.
