Lord Cecil writes concerning the potential sale of "The Standard" newspaper. He further writes that he believes Pearson would sell his interest for "about £100,000". He further writes that "up-to-date American methods" would be out of place in such a paper as the Standard, however that "a return to decorous respectability would be remunerative". He also writes concerning the political benefits of purchasing the paper and makes reference to [Richard] Haldane and Kier Hardie. He further writes of what he sees to be the political future of "the moderates" and of Unionist Free Traders. He finally writes that "it is rather important that the project should be kept as secret as possible". Sent from: Gale, Chelwood Gate, Uckfield. Letter is marked "Private".
