Scope and Content

SCC writes making reference to the letter he has received from Lord Wolsley [see CS8/1699] and the uncomplimentary remarks he makes about the Government. SCC writes that the argument and policy to which he refers will shortly be started. He writes making reference to France and the Suez Canal. He writes advising what may be needed financially to gain the support of the Turkish Sultan in assisting with the removal of the Mahidi in Sudan. He further writes as to renewed objections to the Sudenese war and doubts that the House of Commons would agree to supplies being provided for an Autumn campaign. He writes that Parliament cannot back a change of policy purely on Worseley's opinions however he confirms that he still has much confidence in Wolseley's military talent. Sent from: London.
