Lord Salisbury writes concerning the Lord Lieutenancy of Derbyshire advising that he should have great pleasure in putting SCC's name forward as the Duke's [of Devonshire] successor. He further writes however that he understands that this may seem distasteful to SCC and the Duke therefore proposes that SCC undertake as Vice Lieutenant those duties that the Duke has found it "inconvenient to perform". He finally writes that he is sorry to hear that SCC has been unwell and hopes that he is better. Sent from: [Unknown]. Letter is marked "private".
