Scope and Content

Correspondence with Ronald E.T. Allen, [a distant cousin of C.P. Scott], relating to an enquiry as to potential employment opportunities at the Manchester Guardian, and Scott's suggestion of a meeting to discuss a career in journalism.

Also included is information on Allen's attendance at the London School of Economics, potential training as a journalist and a visit for Allen to the London offices of the Manchester Guardian, with internal memoranda giving notice of the visit.

There is correspondence relating to feedback on an article on Pisa written by Allen, discussion of the Labour Party, and a description of a Labour demonstration in Hyde Park.

Also included is a request by Allen to write articles for potential publication in the Manchester Guardian during a trip abroad, and also for advice on potential subject matter. Scott suggests an account of a tea or rubber plantation, and impressions of the Malay States. There are also internal memoranda discussing Allen's request.

There is a letter discussing a complaint made by Mr Dearmer relating to articles by Allen published in the Manchester Guardian.
