Correspondence between Herbert Stanley Morrison, Baron Morrison of Lambeth (1888-1965), politician, and W.P. Crozier, relating to a request by Crozier to Morrison that a story told to him in confidence by [Stanley?] Baldwin [prime minister?] remain private. Also included are congratulations from Crozier on Morrison's appointment as Minister of Supply [during the Second World War], with reference to the magnitude of the task.
There is correspondence relating to discussion, in the wake of the buildings in Manchester which were lost in the fire caused by the bombing of the city, of the lack of adequate fire watchers and the need for stricter enforcement of the fire watchers order. There is a request by Crozier for Morrison's support for greater compulsion for owners of buildings to provide fire watchers, and for a statement by Morrison on the subject for publication in the press. Also included is the suggestion by Crozier of the establishments of a small travelling commission to visit cities which have been bombed and establish what shortcomings in defence there were owing to deficiencies in preparation, in order to ensure better preparation in other cities. Morrison agrees with this sentiment, but suggests that the current system for reporting in this area is adequate, outlining the current practices in place.
There are requests and arrangements for meetings between Morrison and Crozier.
