Scope and Content

Correspondence with (Harold) John Massingham (1888-1952), rural writer, relating to a request by Massingham to be considered for employment as a literary contributor and reviewer for the Manchester Guardian, with details of previous experience. Also included is discussion of potential review work, and also potential contributions by Massingham to the back pages of the Manchester Guardian. There is a letter of introduction for Massingham from [Henry William] Massingham, journalist [and father of Massingham], and a letter of recommendation from Vernon Rendall, journalist and editor.

Also included is discussion of a letter [of complaint] received from Henry Bett over a review by Massingham of his book The Games of Children, Their Origin and History in the Manchester Guardian, and an expression of thanks by Massingham for a notice in the paper for his coming book, [The Heritage of Man].
