Correspondence with Freda Hausman, relating to Hausman's employment at the Manchester Guardian as a typist and indexer, with discussion of holiday cover, requirements for typists at the paper, requests for increases in salary, an absence from work for Hausman owing to illness, and a summary of Hausman's duties, accompanied by internal memoranda. There is discussion of the paper's card index, and the suggestion of an additional categorisation for leader articles, and of a complaint [by Hausman] that staff members are leaving the card index in disarray and should be reminder to return it to its original order.

Also included is correspondence relating to Hausman's resignation from her post, owing to her marriage and subsequent move to Liverpool. There is a request for a reference for Hausman [now Freda Behrman] from W. Noel Deans, The Liverpool Gas Company, which is provided.
