Scope and Content

Correspondence with Sir Ian Standish Monteith Hamilton (1853-1947), army officer, relating to discussion of payment rates required by Hamilton for reviews, and requested amendments to an article by Hamilton for publication in the Manchester Guardian, following a request by Scott that Hamilton write a review of [The Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-1918, volume 1: The Story of Anzac by C.E.W. Beau].

Also included is an extract from a letter from Hamilton to the secretary of the Liverpool Robert Burns Club, relating to discussion of the new president [of the society], Matthew Anderson, and Hamilton's opinion that it is a high recommendation of Anderson that he has been employed by the Manchester Guardian, with praise of the paper.

There is also reference to a letter to the editor by H.A.L. Fisher [entitled The Peace Treaties, Political Settlement East and West] and to articles by [Arnold J.] Toynbee, historian, on the subject which have appeared in the Manchester Guardian, with an offer to publish a letter of response from Hamilton, which is accepted.
