Correspondence with Henri Spahlinger (1882-1965), bacteriologist, relating to discussion of articles in the Daily Express attacking the methods and treatments offered by Spahlinger for tuberculosis, inaccuracies in the reports, and potential forms of response which Spahlinger might make, and of Scott's suggestion that it would be best to ignore the articles entirely. There is also discussion of the distress caused by the articles to Spahlinger. Also included is a copy letter from Scott to Doctor G.P. Anderson discussing the cost of Spahlinger's treatments.
There is correspondence relating to favourable reports by Spahlinger on the progress of his research into the bovine vaccine, and a summary of a report by doctors on Spahlinger's research. Also included is discussion of tests carried out on the vaccine in Britain, and of a report to be given on the results at a meeting, which the Manchester Guardian is invited to attend. There are expressions of thanks by Spahlinger for support offered by the Manchester Guardian, and for articles on his research published in the paper, with discussion of bovine and human treatments.
There are letters from Spahlinger to Scott and E.T. Scott, with requests for meetings to discuss the publication of the formula of the vaccine, and the potential for its purchase by the Manchester Guardian, which is declined. Also included are related internal memoranda.
GDN/A/S76/11-12 are articles entitled 'The Spahlinger Vaccine; Cattle Test in Norfolk' and 'Spahlinger Comes Back' in the Manchester Guardian, 1930.
