Correspondence with Alexander Dunlop Lindsay, first Baron Lindsay of Birker (1879-1952), educationist, relating to an offer by Lindsay of articles for the Manchester Guardian from a visit to Dublin as part of a small group of observers in the months prior to the Anglo-Irish treaty, with reference to the perspective of Sinn Fein, which are accepted with discussion of length of article, and Scott's intention to bring it to the attention of [David] Lloyd George, prime minister.
There is a request that Lindsay act as correspondent on the University of Oxford, which is accepted. There are also requests for articles from Lindsay on undergraduate discipline in women's colleges, and on the powers of the vice-chancellor in relation to the prohibition of the discussion of Communist doctrine by two Indian students. There is a request for Lindsay to nominate a successor as University correspondent, which is granted, and accompanied by related internal memoranda.
There is a suggestion by Lindsay that the Manchester Guardian compile a forecast of the Liberal and Labour candidates [standing in the general election] in order to assist in voting decisions for progressives. Also included is a request for recommendations from Lindsay for potential new leader writing and reporting staff for the paper, with reference to role requirements and salary.
