Scope and Content

Correspondence between Barnard Ellinger, financial writer, and E.T. Scott relating to apologies by Scott that an article written by Ellinger for publication in the Manchester Guardian has been mislaid, and a request for the provision of another copy.

Also included is correspondence relating to the offer by Ellinger of a pamphlet entitled The Concentration in the English Cotton Industry, by Dr J[an] Wisselink, economist, for potential publication in a supplement of the Manchester Guardian, which is declined. There are internal memoranda discussing its potential publication in the Manchester Guardian Commercial, and correspondence relating to the suggestion that quotations could be used by the Manchester Guardian to publicise the pamphlet, should it be published elsewhere, which is accepted.

There is correspondence relating to discussion of letters to the editor by Ellinger, written in response to letters published under the pseudonym Protagoras entitled 'Our Financial Position' in the Manchester Guardian. There is reference to the publication of Ellinger's name with the letters, in order to lend them greater authority, to which Ellinger agrees.
