Correspondence with Samuel George Hobson (1870-1940), political activist and journalist, relating to an offer by Hobson of articles on the leadership of the Labour party for publication in the Manchester Guardian, which are declined, with discussion of [Ramsay] MacDonald, prime minister, and an assertion by Hobson about the relation of the industrial to the political.
Also included is correspondence relating to an offer of articles by Hobson on the House of Lords, and Hobson's views on potential alternatives for a second chamber, and the need to separate the political from the economic, which is declined. The articles are offered for publication in the Manchester Guardian again a year later, with discussion of support for Hobson's views from the trade unions. There is correspondence relating to the provision of a copy of The House of Industry: a new state of the realm by Hobson, with internal memoranda enquiring as to whether it should receive a notice in the paper.
