Scope and Content

Draft copy letters to Hugh Chisholm (1866-1924), journalist and editor of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, relating to discussion of the strained relationship between Scott and Henry Asquith, prime minister, [owing in part to the on-going divisions in the Liberal party between the supporters of Asquith and of David Lloyd George], with reference to comments on the Manchester Guardian made by Asquith. This discussion takes place owing to the nomination of Scott for the Athenaeum [Club], for which Asquith has been asked to act as proposer.
