Also included is Cole's withdrawal from consideration for employment owing to the offer of the Price Fellowship at Magdalen College, Oxford.
There is correspondence relating to the provision of reviews by Cole for the Manchester Guardian, and of his employment to write a weekly column on Labour, with discussion of length, form and content. There is also discussion of the provision of daily notes and articles on Labour, and a request for a reduction in the volume of articles produced by Cole. There is correspondence relating to the decision to discontinue the daily Labour notes, owing to space constraints, and to the termination of Cole's employment by the Manchester Guardian, owing to the decision to have a permanent member of staff at the paper produce weekly Labour articles. Also included is discussion of Cole continuing to contribute articles to the Manchester Guardian on an occasional basis.
