Scope and Content

Correspondence between Roland Field Wilkins (1872-1950), civil servant, and E.T. Scott, relating to a request that Wilkins write an appreciation for the Manchester Guardian of Sir John Swanwick Bradbury, civil servant, on the occasion of his receipt of an honorary degree from the University of Manchester, which is granted. Also included is an offer by Wilkins of occasional contributions for the paper, with discussion of book reviews, obituaries and back page articles, which is accepted, with reference to an article from a visit by Wilkins to Andorra, and the production of an obituary for Lord Robert Chalmers, civil servant. Also included are related internal memoranda and correspondence. There is also a notice of a special meeting of the University of Manchester Court, which includes the recommendation of Bradbury for an honorary degree.
