Correspondence with Sir Arthur John Evans (1851-1941), archaeologist, relating to discussion of articles and book reviews by Evans which are published in the Manchester Guardian. There is discussion of subjects for occasional articles, Evans' potential employment as a special correspondent by the Manchester Guardian, an offer by Evans to write articles on a trip to Greece and Crete, with reference to Prince George of Greece becoming the High Commissioner of Crete, and thanks for the publication of a letter by Evans on the Italian government's plans for expansion of territories in exchange for assisting the allies in [the First World War], against opposition from the Serbian government.
Also included is correspondence relating to an offer by Evans of an article on the archaeological discoveries at Glozel, which is accepted, and discussion of a shared scepticism as to their authenticity. There is discussion of a letter to the editor by Evans on the discovery of a Greek inscription from the 13th century BC, which is also suspected to be fraudulent, which is published in the Manchester Guardian. There is reference to a mutual friend of Scott and Evans, [William] Boyd Dawkins, and an invitation to the Scotts to visit and stay with Evans and his wife.
There is a request by Scott for an article by Evans on the subject of a book, [Through Basque to Minoan by F.G. Gordon], which is refused owing to the pressures of Evans' work. Also included is a letter of thanks for a message of condolence sent by Evans [on the death of C.P. Scott].
