Correspondence with Hugh Massingham, journalist and writer, relating to a request by Massingham to be considered for employment at the Manchester Guardian, with details of previous experience. There is correspondence relating to the provision of specimens of Massingham's work, and to arrangements for his employment as a reporter and sub-editor. Also included is correspondence with [James Louis] Garvin, journalist and newspaper editor, relating to a request for employment of Massingham at the Manchester Guardian, with reference to his abilities and to his father, [Henry William Massingham, journalist and editor].

There is correspondence between Massingham and E.T. Scott relating to an increase in Massingham's salary, with discussion of the minimum wages required by the National Union of Journalism, and accompanied by related internal memoranda.
