Scope and Content

Correspondence with James Rendel Harris (1852-1941), biblical scholar and palaeographer, relating to a request that Harris write an account of the massacres in Armenia in 1895 and 1896 for the Manchester Guardian, which is refused on the grounds of concerns relating to the present situation in Armenia and fears as to future massacres, with discussion of the massacres, and the current situation in Armenia and a book by Rendel and Helen Harris, letters from the scenes of the recent massacres in Armenia, and the need for a warning to be delivered to Turkey.

Also included is a request that Harris write an appreciation of the work of Jane Harrison, classical scholar, for publication in the Manchester Guardian, with reference to her ill health, which is refused.
