Scope and Content

Correspondence with Christian Frederik Louis Leipoldt (1880-1947), doctor, journalist and poet, relating to an offer of articles by Leipoldt for publication in the Manchester Guardian on the treason trials in the Cape Colony in South Africa. Also included are offer by Leipoldt to act as a correspondent for the Manchester Guardian on South Africa, with reference to articles on the Union of South Africa, and on the death of [Paul] Kruger, president of the Transvaal, accompanied by internal memoranda discussing Leipoldt as a potential correspondent and reviewer of books on South Africa.
