Correspondence between William Wallace Pettigrew (1867-1947), gardener, and E.T. Scott, relating to Pettigrew's decision to give up the provision of weekly nature notes for the Manchester Guardian, owing to the pressures of writing a book on public park administration.
Also included are letters of recommendation for Frank Baumber, gardener, sent to Pettigrew in support of an application for employment by the Parks and Cemeteries department. There is correspondence relating to a request for assistance in finding work for the gardeners that employed by C.P. Scott prior to his decease, which is declined, owing to a lack of vacancies.
