Scope and Content

Correspondence with Captain Bernard Acworth DSO, submariner, writer and journalist, relating to the delivery of a copy of a book by Acworth entitled The Navies of Today and Tomorrow. A Study of the Naval Crisis from Within, for review by the Manchester Guardian.

Also included is correspondence from A[rthur] J[ohn] Cummings, News Chronicle to J[ames] Bone, relating to discussion of Acworth as a potential Naval correspondent or contributor for the Manchester Guardian (GDN/A/A11/14-15).

There is also correspondence with Arthur Hungerford Pollen relating to a letter of recommendation for Acworth. In addition, there is a request that Pollen write a letter outlining his views on the use of the submarine, for potential publication in the Manchester Guardian (GDN/A/A11/1-5).
