Correspondence and internal memoranda relating to the administration and procedures for advertisement in the Manchester Guardian, including an outline of the process by which advertisements are received, the procedure which would be required to check each copy thoroughly for potentially libellous material, and internal policy on information being passed between the London and Manchester offices regarding prospectuses for publication.

Also included are internal memoranda on the placement of advertisements for Hutchinson's, regarding a complaint received about an advertisement, discussion of the efficacy of a potential advertisement for a fund for [Owens] College, and of a weekly article on motoring to accompany advertisements. There is also correspondence with Mrs Wordsworth, relating to a request for information on where to obtain a doormat featured in an advertisement.

Advertisement for doormat is included.
