Scope and Content

Correspondence between Winifred Hume and E.T. Scott, relating to discussion of Hume's employment as an indexer at the Manchester Guardian, with reference to concerns that the index is not being kept up to date, and to Hume's work and health, accompanied by an internal memorandum on a meeting between Hume and E.T. Scott. Also included is correspondence relating to the decision to terminate Hume's employment, with explanations by Hume for the delays in indexing, and an offer to work additional hours, which is declined.

There are requests by Hume for re-employment, with reference to difficulties in finding a new post, debts owed by Hume and intention of completing a degree, which are declined. Also includes is an internal memorandum discussing the situation.
