Scope and Content

Correspondence with T. Fisher Unwin Ltd, publishing house, relating to discussion of the publication of articles and reviews of The Decadence of Europe; [the paths of reconstruction] by Francesco Nitti in the Manchester Guardian, accompanied by internal correspondence and memoranda, a summary of the book and a review and analysis of each chapter. There is a request by Scott for permission to reprint a section of the Dariac report published by the Manchester Guardian, [with reference to Nitti's book]. Also included is correspondence relating to a request by Nitti for copies of the paper in which notices of the book appear. There is also discussion of the provision of photographs by Fisher Unwin relating to Nitti, and the use by the paper of a photograph of [Villa Nitti] in Aquafredda.

Also included is correspondence with Francesco Nitti (1868-1953), economist and prime minister of Italy, relating to an enquiry as to the publication of an article by Nitti on the [Locarno] pact in the Manchester Guardian, which is confirmed. There is correspondence between Nitti and W.P. Crozier, relating to the return of an [unknown] article by Nitti, as its publication has been declined. There is reference to the continuation of the provision of copies of the Manchester Guardian to Nitti. There is also correspondence relating to thanks for the provision of [The Disintegration of Europe] by Nitti. There is a request for the provision of letters to the editor from Nitti on the situation in Europe, which is accepted, and discussion of Nitti's anxiety over the current state of European affairs.
